Reflection Hologram Composites are murals made of original reflection holograms recorded on glass plates. The finished holograms are mounted together and framed to install on a wall. Illuminated with a light, the holograms project out at the viewer, recede behind the surface, have scintillating color, and kinetic changes, all captured holographically on the flat glass plane. The articles below explain Nancy Gorglione's intentions and holographic techniques. Reflection Hologram types and techniques are further explained on the Reflection Hologram page.

TRANSMISSION HOLOGRAM SCULPTURES
by NANCY GORGLIONE
Cherry Optical Holography

Holographic Starburst black and white photo and jpeg image derived from a Transmission Diffraction Grating by Cherry Optical Holography.

Transmission Hologram Sculptures Are Multiple Large Format Transmission Holograms Arranged in Sculptural Configurations.

The sculptures are composed of clear film holograms laminated to glass or Plexiglas which contain holographic depth and kinetic colors. Our holographic sculptures can be freestanding; wall-mounted; or suspended from the ceiling. Sculptural configurations are specifically designed for your entrances and entrancements, lobbies, atriums; environments- and in stage settings as pioneered in EquusUnderwater, A Holographic Stage Set by Nancy Gorglione and Greg Cherry. (pictured in black & white, above.) Please do not mistake these holograms for diffraction foil.

Abstract and Realistic Imagery with Projecting Rays of Light

The Transmission Holographic Sculptures contain diverse abstract and realistic hologram imagery. They often project rays of light into the viewer's space. Our holograms can contain relatively great depth and projection, with imagery "right out there," in front of you. Along with true three-dimensional space, our transmission holograms can be designed to capture a sequence of movements. Time in space! Moving kinetic imagery, shifting overlapping prismatic colors, with depth, projection, parallax. And all captured on a flat holographic film plane. Complex Transmission holograms can combine various types of holograms in a single image. Video on our Transmission Hologram Art Page.

Holographic Sculpture combining imagery and abstract light in kinetic deep space Transmission Holograms, each 22 by 30 inches, mounted in custom free-standing anodized aluminum frames. Smaller reflection holograms reflect holographic imagery from the back wall behind the transmission hologram sculptures. Combined white light illumination and Mercury Arc Light on hologram at the left.

Complex Transmission Holograms by Cherry Optical Holography. Our complex diffraction grating holograms often have central star imagery. We've combined dozens of these diverse mandalas of holographic light with special illumination to form each unique holographic sculpture. For exhibitions, installations, caves, and your living room.

Innovative laser and chromatic lighting illuminates our holograms' diverse placements in space. Ultimately a view of transcendent space akin to Gabor's original visions for holography, these holograms often entrance the viewer with their beauty and uniqueness. Venues include Holographic Exhibitions such as Resonant Matters at the Sonoma Museum of Art, and Laser Light Shows, including the Laser Light & Percussion Orchestra sightings and events. Astral Gates: (a few pictured below) changing configurations of deep space kinetic holograms by N. Gorglione in glass panels of four, each 22 in by 30 in. freestanding or wall supported; with anodized aluminum or steel frames, originated as gates for Equus/Underwater. We've made many versions since Equus. Like flickering jewels of light, or sun through drops of rainwater, these holograms contain fluid prismatic light shaped into a myriad of abstract forms.

N. Gorglione comments on her holographic pictures and portals:

I am a story-teller with holography.
Reflection Hologram Composites are arranged compositions of multiple reflection holograms on glass plates.
I like to use the juxtaposition of objects and images, sizes, and  especially, colors to tell these reflection hologram stories.

Original Holograms On Glass Plates
I usually originate the holograms by creating laser-viewable holographic masters, often derived from original sculpture, artwork or kodalith images, handmade to express the theme. After creating the laser masters, I transfer the holographic images as image-plane reflection holograms, which are viewable in white light. The rare Denisyuk or off-axis reflection hologram might find its way into my holographic mix.

My reflection composite holograms can have twenty or more Masters so that I can express the theme, and get the  angles of parallax to work together in the over-all piece. The color process requires varying double exposures of the holograms for additive color mixtures.

The finished holograms are mounted together and framed to install on a wall, easily illuminated with a single light such as a MR 16 white light track light.

Such Colors! The World of Imagery and Abstract Effects
are often combined to create changing scenes of otherworldly beauty.

These free-standing, or suspended holograms are clear film windows laminated to Plexiglas. Individual sizes vary, typically 22 x 30 inches; 32 x 36 inches; 40 x 40 inches. The holographic panels are arranged together by theme and colors to increase the large sculptural impact of holography. The colors are dazzling, prismatic rainbows of deep light, skipping and sparkling across the surface and projecting as much as five feet.

to create deep scenes of imaginary cities,
landscapes that morph into mandalas
